# Jallikattu

   It is a sport played as part of the Matthew Pongal. Matu Bongal is the third day of the four-day festival. It is also known as Manchurian Viratu or erutajubutal. "Jalikatu" comes from the words "Kali" (Coin) and "Katu" (Tai), meaning that a bundle of coins is tied to the bull's horns.

**History**

  Jalikatu is said to have originated from the Tamil classical period, which lasted from 400 to 100 BC. It is said that a cave painting 2500 years ago depicts a person conducting a bull.
